Virtual Internship Case Study: Agriface, Rwanda

Introduction

Agriface is a social enterprise with objective of buying maize and beans from these vulnerable farmers by contracting their cooperatives and associations as suppliers in Rwanda. Two students in BA Global Development and Social Anthropology supported Agriface’s mission to build an inclusive business to compete with other actors in the EAC market.

The Story of Agriface

Founded in 2017, Agriface is an enterprise focused on providing:

  • Farmers a price that is 10% better than what the market offers

  • Training of farmers

  • Post harvest handling technology

Activities include services and food products that contribute to the social and economic impact of the East African population, while conserving the most benefits to the smallholder farmers.

The Opportunity

As Marketing Assistants at Agriface, the students worked towards creating impactful content that enhanced the company's visibility and reputation.

Results

Over eight weeks, the students and Agriface’s team including the Founder and CEO Bahati Wenslars collaborated online to:

  • Formulate a marketing strategy

  • Curate social media content

These efforts increased visibility, encouraged deeper engagement through compelling storytelling and visuals, and fostered trust and credibility through transparency and impactful metrics.
