Assorted Trends Africa is a non-profit social enterprise based in Kayunga, Uganda, dedicated to empowering marginalised women and young people in rural communities. Shekinah Mwape, a student in BA International Relations supported Assorted Trends Africa’s mission for community transformation through health education, agriculture, and entrepreneurial development.
The Story of Assorted Trends Africa
Founded in 2018, Assorted Trends Africa is a company focused on supporting over 200 micro-businesses run by rural women and providing vocational and business skills training to over 60 teenage and young mothers. Activities include a sexual reproductive health and rights schools programme successfully reaching more than 1500 students in rural areas of Uganda.
The Opportunity
As a Programme Coordinator at Assorted Trends Africa, Shekinah worked towards streamlining programme coordination and offering improvements in strategic output.
Results
Over eight weeks, Shekinah and the Assorted Trends Africa CEO, Nsubuga Kigongo, collaborated online to:
Improve Assorted Trends Africa’s bidding strategy
Provide a strategy encouraging Assorted Trends Africa to create profit orientated social media pages
Streamline social media strategy
These efforts led to securing funding for the next two years and developing culturally sensitive monitoring and evaluation techniques.
