Introduction

Kosmotive, founded in 2014, aims to improve maternal and child health in Rwanda and throughout Africa. Partnering with Learning Connected, Kosmotive engaged a remote micro-intern to support their KosmoPads initiative. This collaboration led to significant advancements in their mission to empower young women and girls through eco-friendly, reusable sanitary pads.

The Story of Kosmotive

Kosmotive is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to increasing access to menstrual, maternal, and child health information and products. Their initiatives include:

• Kosmos Magazine

• KosmoHealth App and Helpline

• Storytelling

• Socio-economic empowerment for marginalised women in Rwanda

• Through their Fashion Incubator, Kosmotive produces the Kadablah collection of maternity and nursing wear and KosmoPads reusable sanitary pads, aiming to invest in girls’ education, women’s health, and environmental sustainability.

The Opportunity

Kosmotive sought to enhance their support for young women and girls by addressing menstrual health challenges. The KosmoPads initiative aims to:

• Produce eco-friendly, cost-effective, reusable sanitary pads

• Educate young women on making pads

• Foster financial independence through pad-making and sales

Results

Learning Connected introduced Kosmotive to a motivated Crowdfunding Assistant. Over the internship period, the assistant collaborated with the Kosmotive team to:

• Plan and execute a crowdfunding campaign

• Manage social media outreach

• Communicate with donors effectively

This effort supported the KosmoPads initiative, contributing to the distribution of reusable sanitary pads to 28 girls in a rural school in the Northern Province of Rwanda.

The partnership resulted in:

• Enhanced campaign planning and execution

• Improved content and action plans

• Increased online visibility for Kosmotive
